In acute danger, stop searching and call for help directly. These numbers are free and available around the clock.
If life is in danger: 112
If your child has harmed themselves, talks about suicide or their life is in danger, call 112 (emergency call / Notruf) immediately or go to the emergency department of the nearest children’s hospital.
Psychological crisis: 116 117 and helplines
- No immediate danger but the situation is very hard: the medical on-call service (ärztlicher Bereitschaftsdienst) on 116 117.
- Emotional support by phone (Telefonseelsorge): 0800 111 0 111 or 0800 111 0 222, free and anonymous.
- Crisis support for young people by text: krisenchat.de (via messaging/WhatsApp).
Warning signs that need immediate help
- Talk of suicide or “I don’t want to be here anymore”.
- Self-harm (cutting, burning).
- Complete refusal to eat or drink, physical collapse.
- Losing touch with reality, intense panic, uncontrollable behaviour.
